Sau-Man Yip received her Bachelor Degree (Hon) in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Later she went to Berklee College of Music (Valencia Campus) in Spain to study Scoring for Film, Television and Video Games.

Yip has been working as a music composer and arranger for over a decade. Clients include renowned orchestras, theatres and singers in Hong Kong. She has taught music courses in HKU SPACE and the Open University of Hong Kong, and is experienced in piano, music theory and African drumming education as well.

In 2016, she founded the company Kalimba Tree. Aiming to popularise the African oriented musical instrument, Yip focuses on kalimba pedagogy and developing the exclusive learning materials, also arranges popular songs and performs on the YouTube channel with over 160,000 subscribers. Meanwhile, she has been actively teaching kalimba at schools, social service organisations and private classes. Students include young learners, teenagers, adults and seniors.
